Swelling is the main downtime with Kybella. Most patients have visible swelling for 3-7 days, but the area can feel firm, tender, numb, or “full” for several weeks. The first treatment usually causes the most swelling because there is more under chin fat for the medication to target. Plan your Kybella double chin injection at least 3-4 weeks before photos, events, travel, or anything where you do not want visible swelling.

Use ice as directed, sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night, and avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga, facial massage, and pressure under the chin for 24-48 hours. Do not aggressively massage the area unless your provider specifically tells you to. Contact ELEV8 if you notice severe pain, major asymmetry, trouble swallowing, facial weakness, or anything that feels unusual.

Most patients need 2-4 treatments. Kybella works by using deoxycholic acid to break down targeted fat cells, then your body gradually clears those cells through its normal waste-removal process. Because we can only treat a safe, measured amount of chin fat at each appointment, you need multiple sessions to reduce the pocket safely and evenly for the most natural-looking results.

Yes, Kybella for double chin reduction permanently destroys treated fat cells. Once those cells are gone, they do not come back. However, future weight gain, aging, skin laxity, or changes in facial structure can still affect the way your chin, jawline, and neck look over time.

Kybella can feel spicy during the injection process. Most patients describe the treatment as a burning, stinging, or warming sensation under the chin that fades after the appointment. We can use numbing, ice, and other comfort measures to make the treatment easier.
